This new iteration of the project, titled “An Explosion …” is articulated from a series of artistic operations carried out from 2015 to date. A question has oriented all of them: What role does technology play in mediating our landscape experience? Specifically, in our proposal for SACO 7 we inquired about the possibility of editing the landscape, both in material terms -interrupt, veto, fracture the territory-, and symbolic -appropriate, rewrite, resignify. “An Explosion…” challenges the audience to visualise ways in which the Atacama minefields subjectively modify the territory. The risk of crossing a territory with the potential to explode is both real and invisible at the same time. In this way “An explosion…” presents different ways in which travellers and inhabitants of Atacama adapt their ways of crossing the territory according to the virtual (and real) presence of the mines. In a more or less explicit way, they edit the territory according to the presence of the mines. In this sense, “Una Explosión…” explores how Chile’s war history impacts the way territory is experienced today.
We create a media installation specific to the context of the Contemporary Art Week SACO7 in Antofagasta. In particular, we produced an artistic experience that invites the public to tour “a minefield”, relating the geographical reality of the minefields to the subjective experiences of the local inhabitants through technology, giving an account of the multiple dimensions that constitute this landscape.
