For this new iteration of the landmine project, the art collective offers an audiovisual investigation of the Chilean and Dutch landscape, based on the concern raised from the representation of the territory. Videos, photographs, audios, drawings and installations are intertwined in the exhibition “Liquid Landscapes: what happens if the ground under your feet can’t be trusted?”. The exhibition, shown at the Kunstfort museum in the Netherlands, proposes to address the geographical and historical conditions of the museum and linked this to the landscape of the Atacama desert in Chile. This, considering that the Kunstfort bij Vijfhuizen museum was part of a military defence plan – the Stelling van Amsterdam -, to flood the lands surrounding Amsterdam, as a strategy to avoid enemy invasions. In this sense, Border Agency combines this particular landscape construction, with its previous research in the minefields in Chile. The exhibition “Liquid Landscapes” challenges visitors to experience a dynamic, changing landscape, even at times, violent. Thus the artists propose a new work created especially for this exhibition with the participation of local collaborators. Multiple perceptions of a landscape-weapon are explored, linking the landscape experience in the Stelling van Amsterdam and the fields Mines of the Atacama Desert.
The exhibition was located in 4 rooms of the museum. In the first room, the diptych video “An explosion …” was displayed, allowing viewers to traverse through space and viewing the two-channel video from different angles. In the second room, the video “The Invaders” recounts the experience of life in the terrestrial triangle in the framework of the Hawapi residence. In the fourth room, a large photograph of an explosion is accompanied by a video of the sea projected on the floor. Finally, in the fourth room, you can see the archive of collaborations from neighbours and artists who reflected on the experience of the landscape that becomes a weapon in Holland.
